The Alter

Black lace enveloped my tongue
Constricting every breath
Down to a mere humiliating gasp for life
This pleased him
My tears
I saw them in his eyes
But they must never come out

My voice shackled by fear
Remained silent before him
As I stood at the alter
Face to face with the devil
A pool of blood kept my bare feet warm
And with the power vested in him
I had surrendered
to none other than
Myself
