I made the switch to completely plant based facial care products almost 2 years ago. I have your typical greasy Latino skin. Remember that movie Precious? When she’s running with a bucket of fried chicken? Well, if you were to dump that chicken out and look at the bottom of the bucket…yah thats how my face looks! Seriously you could deep fry some Taquitos on my face in the summertime (vegetarian ones!) All that grease causes me small breakouts, I read somewhere that sometimes the synthetic chemicals in face and body care products could sometimes cause irritation and breakouts as well… so I made the switch and never looked back. I’ve been using Jack Black Mens products for 2 years or so now; Ill get your occasional zit especially when I eat cheese (I avoid dairy as much as possible) but I have really clear skin now.
When it comes to face scrubs though I love making them myself! They are simple to make and more than likely you’ll have everything you need in your kitchen! My favorite summer time skin brighting conCOCKtion (hehe) is my Lemon Facial Scrub! Super simple and is good for about 2 weeks; thats as long as Ill keep it before Im like…yah no, time for a new batch so I keep them small. Check it out yourself!
What you’ll need:
1/2 Juice of fresh lemon
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1 tbls of Coconut Oil or Olive Oil
Lemon Zest (for decorative purposes + the zest oils adds more fragrance)
10 drops of Tea Tree Oil (Anti-Bacterial/Fungal great for acne prone skin)
15 drops of Vitamin E Oil (works great as a natural preservative)
1 small tupperware bowl with lid or Mason Jar with lid
Combine all liquid ingredients first and mix well. Add in the sugar and mix. Consistency is more of a personal preference feel free to add more or less sugar; I like mine somewhat runny. Store in container, no need for refrigeration if its in a tightly kept container.
Apply to face in gentle circular motions. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and rinse with cool water. I follow this with face serum or night cream. Enjoy!
So you can go out and spend between $15-$25 on a Lemon Scrub
or walk into your kitchen and make it yourself for FREE!
